I wrote this on my arm the for first IM I did, to remind me of why I was doing it.

With only two months until Kangaroo Island Sufferfest triathlon, things are starting to get real. The trouble I find with this part of my training is that I seem to be feeling one of two things. I am either struggling to find motivation after what seems to have been a long base period of training, or completely panicking that I haven’t done enough training to get the work done on the day.

Coming into this phase of your training you need to be making sure you are getting specific with your training, and moving in the right direction to obtaining your goals.

Find Some Motivation

What ever it was that got you to sign up for this race in the first place, try and find it again. If that doesn’t work, then watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpiDGvgQ7bs

Start To Get Specific

Like I said earlier, its time to get specific, so if your signed up for an Ironman distance event, you need to work out the pace of your swim, bike and runs and your training needs to start working towards those times.

Get On A Streak

Some of the best advise given to me when I did my first Ironman distance race. Know what training sessions you need to do and cross each one off as you get it done. Build up a training streak, which will hopefully give you the motivation to keep training and not miss another session.

Do All The Little Things Done

We all know what we should be doing. Recovery run, stretching, sleeping, foam roller, vitamins, eating well. This is the time where you need to make sure you are doing all the little things to get through the final months of training.
