Staying safe online during the pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the need to protect not only one’s own physical health, but also our digital selves. The Open Development Initiative has developed a set of nine tips for staying safe online during the pandemic.

This is in response to the increasing need in the Mekong region to access information online and work from home. In some countries, a number of digital apps have emerged and are being used to track or provide information about the pandemic. To support social distancing, Zoom meetings, Skype calls, and WhatsApp messages have become commonplace.

In order to use all of these tools, users are exposed to cyber security issues potentially putting their personal security and identities at risk. In fact, the pandemic has seen an increase in eavesdroppers, phishing scams, and other cyber security concerns, along with an unprecedentedly wide spread of misinformation and disinformation.

The infographic posters are available in Lao, Burmese, Thai, Vietnamese and English, and have been made available offline to Indigenous communities through our community partners. Licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, they are also available on the Open Development platforms for download and redistribution.
