Why I joined Opendoor

Last year, my wife and I purchased our first home. While we love our home, we did not love the process. The transaction was confusing, and we wished there was more transparency along the way.

Buying a home shouldn’t be a headache. It should be simple. This is a huge reason I was attracted to Opendoor: the ability to work for a company with a mission I believe in.

My career journey

Throughout my career, I’ve worked in technology across a variety of industries, from a large healthcare company to a rideshare startup. And I’ve realized my true passion isn’t solely tech, but working on tech that influences and impacts the real world.

I joined Lyft in 2015 to help revolutionize how people around the world get themselves from one place to another. When I first started at the company, I focused on building the Support & Internal Tooling teams to ensure our customers received high-quality help when they needed it most. I also kickstarted a newly-formed Safety and Insurance team, where we prioritized technology to keep Lyft as a safe rideshare platform. I spent my final two years leading the larger Driver engineering org to build the app, APIs, and backend systems Lyft drivers rely on today.

And now at Opendoor, I have the opportunity to solve problems that affect millions of families each year and apply tech to the real estate industry — an industry that has always been slower to innovate.

Opportunity at Opendoor

At Opendoor, I’m focused on up-leveling engineering organization visibility and scaling the team. I’m already so impressed with the work we’re accomplishing, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. We’re tackling hard engineering problems and solving real-world pain-points for consumers. Using machine learning, data science, and human expertise, Opendoor has developed unprecedented pricing capabilities to deliver accurate and competitive home offers. With an integrated platform and scale, we have the opportunity to create more consumer choice.

I take a people-first approach in my management style and prioritize helping team members become the best versions of themselves. My goal is to support everyone on their personal career paths, at Opendoor and beyond. Over the years, I’ve learned people perform the best — myself included — when they’re working on projects they’re passionate about. And as I support and help grow the organization, I’m looking for fellow teammates who care deeply about what we’re building.

Each year, roughly 40 million Americans, or about 14 percent of the U.S. population, move at least once. And at Opendoor, we’re developing tech that will have a truly meaningful impact across the country. We’re empowering everyone with the freedom to move — and to do so seamlessly and safely.
