Dawn of a New Era

OpenEra is a MMORPG built on the Solana blockchain and powered by Serum. It is inspired by classics like RuneScape and modern MMOs like Albion Online. OpenEra is about uncovering your destiny and taking part in an evolving timeline — traveling through space and time together, as an ever expanding community.

The driving force behind OpenEra is to develop a virtual space where you can live, create and explore. In this world you’ll not only craft unique items with special properties from complex biomes, but most importantly you’ll be able to craft your own story. You’ll not only be able to forge new weapons from verifiably scarce ore, but also forge new friendships and relationships — bounded by trust, reputation, or perhaps by mutually enforceable agreements.

OpenEra is not just another game, but a world you can govern and transcend to a new era.

Built on Solana

Markets are more efficient when exchanges of value can take place seamlessly and frictionless.

A true on-chain gaming experience running on a decentralized blockchain has yet to be developed. The inadequate user experience (UX) of performing on-demand transactions on traditional proof-of-work and even proof-of-stake blockchains is a major deterrent. In particular, this relates to high transactional costs (gas) and low transactional throughput (TPS). But, beyond this, there are also computational limitations imposed by traditional smart contracting frameworks. This hampers the development of more complex in-game dynamics and products that leverage a blockchain and smart contracts. e.g. the implementation of in-game financial products that require complex calculations.

Solana removes these deterrents and allows us to create more dynamic gaming experiences that leverage a blockchain. Imagine close to real-time bartering, peer-to-peer trade markets, community-driven marketplaces, or entering into escrow agreements, or even … cooking a rare dish with unique ingredients that you can sell, trade or stake. All of this happening in real-time as you immerse yourself in OpenEra.

More importantly, with Solana serving as a global single state ledger, we can reap the benefits of composability across its ecosystem — integrating DeFi protocols and products running on Solana.

But, beyond the technicals, we believe that the value of building on Solana is — you, the community. We firmly believe in Solana’s vision, its vibrant ecosystem, and we believe in bootstrapping ourselves to a growing community with whom we can grow alongside.

The Meta Exchange on Serum

Virtual economies cease to be purely virtual once (1) social consensus over the tangible value of virtual assets is reached, and once (2) exchanges of values between the “physical” and virtual world begin to take place. Unlike legacy in-game economies from traditional games, next generation game economies require an underlying financial infrastructure and protocols that allow for open, trustless, permissionless and efficient decentralized exchanges of value. Holistically, this means that Web 3.0 game economies will and should function as autonomous economic systems that are driven by internal autonomous agents such as yourself, and that can be consumed by external actors. All of this taking place without intermediation from a centralized game developer or third party.

This is what Serum enables for OpenEra.

As an underlying money market protocol, Serum allows OpenEra to seamlessly: deploy financial products such as automated market makers (AMMs), define collective asset baskets or interest bearing investment vehicles.

OpenEra will not only leverage Serum for DeFi, but also to create marketplaces where users can trade cosmetics, loot, reputation and other valuables.

.. but, will there be party hats?

Unlike current open world games, sandbox games, or “metaverses” we don’t want to build in silos — we want to build with the community. We believe our goals and the goal of any true Web3.0 project should be to achieve not only technological decentralization, but also organizational decentralization — we can only achieve this engaging you in our process.

Who We Are

We are one of the winners of the Solana DeFi hackathon. We are the team behind Sushi Warrior, a no-loss (DeFi) RPG game. Over the past several years we’ve been developing short games, publishing academic research on human-computer interaction (HCI) and developing immersive reality technology. As well as developing economic models that consider trustless cyberphysical interactions — interactions between virtual game avatars, robots, and humans that leverage cryptocurrencies and blockchain tech to enable financial transactions and agreements. Overall, we are hackers, researchers and game addicts.

To this end, OpenDive Technologies is the company behind OpenEra — an immersive reality startup focused on applying research in gaming, AI, and blockchain technology to bring a cutting-edge experience.
