We are both proud and excited to announce the launch of the world’s first decentralized web hosting protocol. This launch marks a major leap towards a decentralized web and fighting internet censorship.

This will enable users to become a host in the network and make OpenWeb Network more robust and decentralized. The launch of this protocol will enable any user to contribute their computing resources to the network. Also, the users can connect to their nearest host and experience faster speed when accessing the websites on the network.

Moreover, the ability to add more hosts on the network will make the network more immune to attacks such as DDoS attacks (this is in addition to the measures we have taken which limits the number of requests any subscriber can send to filter out spam traffic). Moreover, blocking the hosts (by local ISPs etc) will not necessarily mean limiting a user’s connectivity to the network as new hosts can join the network and provide access to the network.

The current version of the decentralized hosting is available for Ubuntu and we will be launching the support for other operating systems in the future. Below are the steps to set up a host server on OpenWeb Network:

  1. Download the configuration files from https://github.com/openweb-network/host-protocol-nodejs
  2. Install Node.js
  3. Install the dependencies
  4. Configure “Ethereum RPC API URL” in config.json file
  5. Start OpenWeb host server using app.js

OpenWeb is more decentralized than ever and will continuously evolve to make the vision of decentralized and censorship-free internet a reality.
