Manage Your OpenWRT/LEDE Devices From the Cloud
Some might ask what’s the need for adding cloud functionality to their home router.
For example, in order to avoid any unpatched exploits, you decided to flash your old home router that isn’t maintained by the manufacturer anymore. You might not need or care about any extra features. You flashed it with pure vanilla OpenWRT/LEDE, got it working, so no problems. Or you’re happy mixing and matching packages and configuring them to your needs.
But others might want to get more benefit out of using OpenWRT/LEDE, without the need to mess with config files. And this is where CT steps in. By installing Socketman onto your OpenWRT/LEDE device, you open up the power of the cloud and many of the features that we built into the CT dashboard.
While you can get similar functionality out of installing a number of other packages, CT gives you the ease of control and management all under one. You might be able to install packages that allow you to collect wireless stats, but with the limited storage and processing power of the devices, the scope of what you can do with it is restricted.
Whereas with the use of Socketman and CT, you can collect, view and analyse all of that data from an easy to understand interface, without having to worry about limited storage space.
It brings a number of features, such as creating fully fledged guest access networks, with great looking splash pages. And in depth fully customisable triggers, that allow you to integrate with services such as Zapier and IFTTT to bring your device into the world of IoT.
CT & Socketman bring all of this packed into an easy to use interface that can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection. Giving you the ability to control your device without needing to cable in, or even be at the same location.
And if you have more than one device, you can manage them all together from one interface. No need to access each one individually!
While we are extremely proud of what CT and Socketman can do, we are definitely not trying to say OpenWRT/LEDE are bad. They are both extremely awesome operating systems, and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do now without them.
We just acknowledge that while some people want to manually tinker and configure their devices with specific packages and config files, some people prefer a simple to use GUI, and not having to worry about finding lots of packages to handle the individual features they want.
We like to see CT & Socketman are an addon and enhancement, for those that need it. Not a replacement.
