Some Kind of Zombie
Got sun in my face,
sleeping rough on the road
I’ll tell you all about it, when I get home
Comin’ round to meet you, The long way round
— Long Way Round Theme Song
Before I got on the road I had been re-watching the Long Way Round since it’s available on YouTube. Of course, I don’t have time for that nowadays so YouTube sent me a reminder email that there are more episodes available. :)
I think what I like most about Ewan McGregor is his lack of self-importance or maybe his humility. It’s not that I don’t like Charlie but Charlie gets frustrated when things don’t go his way and he sort of lashes out. It’s been really interesting observing the human interaction side of the trip. I think I focused more on the adventure aspect last time I watched it. I wish I could watch an episode tonight but last night I only got 3 hours of sleep and then drove 12 hours. Tomorrow I will drive for 10 so I need my “beauty rest.”
Being in the road is so calming. I love looking at the scenery and wishing I could capture it all. I need a GoPro. I drive through the flaming gorge today and just laughed at the name. I was genuinely amused. I came up with a million different scenarios on how the name came about. It was a beautiful place too. I wanted to stop (as always).
I also drove by Rupert, Idaho and wanted to stop and take a picture for Naomi but by the time I figured out what I was doing I had passed and I didn’t want to go back. (Did I mention I only got 3 hours of sleep last night?)
The miracle is that I didn’t get smelly at all (darn autocorrect, I typed sleepy not smelly — I’m leaving it). I also made it to Hannah’s parents an hour and a half ahead of schedule. It was fabulous! Then we talked forever (as usual) and I shared my story. It has gotten so much easier to share some of the details that used to dissolve me to a puddle of tears. At the same time, none of the impact seems to be lost.
I miss Hannah and Benny!! I might dream about them tonight lol Or not, it doesn’t work like that exactly.
Oh, this morning Lynn sent me off with a proper breakfast — eggs, bacon, gluten free pancakes and fruit. It was so hard to leave Mike and Lynn — and not because of the food. But at least I installed Viber on Lynn’s phone so we’ll be able to talk in Chile.
Well, good night for now! :)
¡Hasta mañana, iguana! He He!
