Opolis is grateful to be returning to ETHDenver 2019 and is super curious to see how buidlers (aka hackers) collaborate to create the future of Web3. Here’s a little more about the Opolis project and how to connect with our Stewards at the ETHDenver BUIDLATHON:

What is Opolis?
Do you have a side hustle? Are you a full-time freelancer? Have you ever left a corporate job and been stuck trying to figure out your health insurance or retirement options before you start something new? Have you ever stayed in job you don’t like because you can’t live without the benefits they give you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you likely know that today’s current employment ecosystem tends to favor larger corporations. Tax compliance, benefits, and other pieces of standard corporate employment are often much harder to organize and access if you’re working outside of traditional corporation-based employment.

Opolis was founded on the belief that the future of work is increasingly dynamic, and as such, a more balanced distribution of power between the employer and employee should exist. Affordable, portable benefits, retirement plans, and shared services are things that should stay with you regardless of where you decide to work. The Opolis framework moves employment from being corporation-centric to network-centric. This decentralized approach allows employees to choose and keep the benefits they need most while letting employers unload many of the compliance burdens they currently experience as providers of benefit services.

How Does a Decentralized Employee Organization Work?
Opolis combines legal and technical layers into one framework called a Decentralized Employee Organization (DEO). A DEO framework consists of a network of individuals who choose to co-op their benefit services through decentralized governance so that no single party controls everything. There is a shared services trustee component to the framework which performs administrative tasks like billing, accounting, finance, payroll, benefits administration, and compliance and tax preparation as controlled and accepted through the DEO of individuals. With the DEO framework, you no longer need to search for benefit services independently, nor through a corporate position, as these utilities are accessible for everyone. With the Opolis structure, your healthcare benefits and shared services are tied to YOU, not the person or company paying you for services.

How to Connect with Opolis at ETHDenver
At ETHDenver, Opolis co-founder and Steward, John Paller, will be speaking on “The Future of Work and Organizing Systems” as well as giving a high level overview of the project at the Opening Ceremonies. This will be a great opportunity for attendees to learn more about decentralized employment and how Opolis is building a worker-friendly future. Opolis Lead Research Engineer, Coury Ditch will also be speaking; his focus will be on “Digital Ethics”. The Opolis Stewards will have some surprises planned and sweet swag & stickers to give away, so make sure to find the Opolis table at the BUIDLATHON.

Connect with New Opportunities with The Opolist
In collaboration with ETHDenver, The Opolist, a free utility connecting people and opportunities, will be hosted through the Opolis website. If you have an open role you you’d like to list permissionlessly, click here and then click “List an Opp”. If you’re looking for a new role you can browse and apply to open positions in minutes. NO FEES, NO MIDDLEMEN.

If you want to learn more about Opolis or connect with a Steward before, during, or after the BUIDLATHON, check out the Opolis website or send questions to hello@opolis.co. Learn more about ETHDenver on their website.
