OPO.design meetup #1: Speaker Profiles 🗣
Meetup #1 is right around the corner, it’s time you get to know our speakers.
Marco Oliveira — Founder of OPO.network & CEO at MOXY
With a background in engineering and design, Marco has built several interdisciplinary teams on high-profile projects like BABOOM, and has been responsible for igniting some of the key Porto tech and creative communities.
An artist with a geek vein, Marco has been living with his feet in two worlds, going back and forward between design and engineering for the past 15 years.
An early adopter of what was then known as Macromedia Flash (remember that?), he quickly became charmed with the potential that the web had, and has been using it ever since as a canvas to exercise his creativity.
Even before obtaining his degree in Computer Engineering, Marco was invited to join Triworks, an internationally awarded design studio, where he quickly became lead developer, and was responsible for turning great ideas into real products.
A few years later, Marco took on the role of Chief Technical Officer at BABOOM, taking charge managing the company, from design and creative process, to software development. His efforts and achievements turned BABOOM into a well known Portuguese entrepreneurship story, with considerable media coverage, and landing Marco his nomination for Founder of the Year 2015 by UP Awards.
More recently, Marco started MOXY, a software and design studio, where he’s responsible for the business and design direction.
[UPDATE 2019.09.16] His studio rounded up 24 awards since the launch of their new website, on September 22nd 2018, including Mobile Site of the Year 2018 on the Annual AWWWARDS.
As the head behind OPO.design, the Porto Design Community and OPO.js, the Porto JavaScript Community, Marco has been focused on narrowing the gap between designers and developers, and trying to push the envelope of the Porto talent.
