Bringing OPP to Cameroon
Christian Tansi is an IT enthusiast living in Cameroon.
Christian contacted us a few weeks ago asking how he can get involved with OPP Open WiFi, to help achieve a peer to peer network established in his country.
Having spoken with Christian several times, the most striking attribute I notice about him is his passion for helping his people and his clear belief that OPP Open WiFi can play an important part.
We are proud to have inducted Christian into our Ambassador program, and we are excited to work with him to make OPP Open WiFi a social contributor to the people of Cameroon
Here are Christian’s thoughts on why OPP Open WiFi is such an important opportunity for Cameroonians, and indeed how it could help all African people in the months and years ahead.
How will OPP Open WiFi free WiFi hotspot help people in Cameroon?
In Cameroon, internet is expensive and most of the time people can’t afford it, especially the young people. This means that far too many of the younger generation are denied access to the web and are unable to carry out educational research, or just be a part of the global village by connecting on social network and making new friends around the world.
OPP Open Wifi has the power to remove these barriers and allow our people to interact with other cultures, improve their education and therefore improve the quality of their lives.
The importance of OPP Open WiFi cannot be overstated!
What impact will the daily payment made by OPP to the data sharing hotspot host have?
Cameroon and various African countries have high unemployment rates amongst young people, so the payment will help them better their lives and I believe they would even look for ways to make more through the OPP opportunity.
Each hotspot host is likely to receive OPP tokens to the value of $20 per month. How important is this extra income likely to be for the people in Cameroon?
As I mentioned above, the rate of unemployment is high there, and many people don’t have the opportunity to work, thus OPP tokens will be welcome as they will see it as some sort of salary every week or month end. The average monthly income in Cameroon is $24 for those who are already working, it will be an added income opportunity for them.
It will make it easier for many more people to afford to have a data sim card, which in turn means more people will be able to share their data and more people will benefit from the OPP Open WiFi internet access.
What attracted you to work with OPP Open WiFi? I am an IT enthusiast and I love looking for solutions to my society’s problems. When I saw the OPP project it brought to my attention that not only will it give people free internet, but it will give them financial gains every month. And believe me, with such innovation added with the financial gains I could not let this opportunity pass me by!
Where do you see OPP Open WiFi presence within Africa in the next 12 months? Africa has a lot of potential for growth. More than 80% is made up of youths. What does this mean for OPP? With stability in this project and the internet and financial solutions that it offers, I see OPP spreading over the whole of west and central Africa in the next 12 months, so why not further north and east Africa in the next 24 months? OPP Open WiFi has the potential to help alleviate many social problems faced by Africans on a daily basis.
