International Women’s Day 2023: Spotlight on the Women of Oppia Foundation

March 8th is International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023, a global event that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This day also raises awareness about the ongoing struggle for gender equity and advocates for women’s rights around the world. At Oppia Foundation, we are proud to work with many brilliant, talented and dedicated women who are making amazing contributions to our mission of providing free, high-quality education to everyone, everywhere. From the developers who build and maintain our online learning platform to the educators and lesson creators who create and curate our educational content to the translators who ensure that non-English speaking learners around the world can benefit from Oppia lessons, the women at Oppia Foundation are making a huge impact in the world of online education.

Meet some of the women who are making a difference at Oppia Foundation:

May Shin Lyan Product Manager at Oppia, Co-founder and CEO at BridgeBurma and Technical Solution Consultant at Google.
Nneoma Pretty Agu Co-lead for the learner’s feedback team, co-lead for Igbo Language translation team, also contributes to the Marketing, UX Research, Go To Market (GTM)/Partnership Teams. Pretty also contributes as an Outreachy mentor working with Oppia for the May — August 2023 internship round.
Avitha DSouza UX Design Manager at Oppia working on a contribution dashboard to support Oppia’s mission of providing quality education for all. Avitha finds it fulfilling to be part of a team committed to improving education, and she’s proud to contribute her skills and expertise to this meaningful initiative.
Oluwole Mercy UX designer at Oppia working on improving the voiceover feature on the Oppia website.
Yigakpoa Ikpae Asides from being one of the social media team leads & the Nigerian-Pidgin translations team lead. Yigakpoa also contributes to the Marketing, UX Research, Learner Feedback, Voice Over & Go To Market (GTM) for the SSA team.
Deepika Mohanty UX designer at Oppia working on contributor dashboard workflow, where Oppia’s esteemed reviewers can now view and understand more of the context around the translated topics (translations done in language of their preference) they are reviewing.
Oluwabusayo Ojo Translates Oppia lessons to Pidgin English and Yoruba Languages, reviews Oppia lessons translated to Yoruba and creates voiceover in Yoruba Language. Oluwabusayo also works with the Go To Market Team.
Aanuoluwapo Adeoti Creates science lessons, leads the lesson fixing team, and contributes to the Nigerian pidgin English translations, and Yoruba translations. Aanuoluwapo also contributes as an Outreachy mentor working with Oppia for the May — August internship round.
Aishat Muibudeen Co-coordinates the Yoruba Translation Team at Oppia and contributes to the Marketing, UX Research, Learner Feedback, Go To Market (GTM) / Partnership team.
Sarah King UX Design Manager at Oppia. Besides being a designer, Sarah is also a Visual artist and Art/ Design educator located in Northern California (Sacramento area). She likes that Oppia allows her to connect her passion for visual design and education into one position and work with an amazing team.
Adanna Ogude Translates Oppia lessons to Igbo Language
Osetiemoria Ebelubhuhi Translates Oppia lessons to Pidgin English and reviews translated lessons.
Judith Juwah Translates Oppia lessons to Pidgin English and reviews translated lessons.

These are just a few of the many amazing women who are making a difference at Oppia Foundation. We are proud to have such a talented and diverse team who also serve as role models and mentors for other women who aspire to careers in STEM fields. We are confident that their contributions will continue to have a positive impact on learners around the world.
