OPPOSITES ATTRACT

“We’re obsessed with fake news.” That is what journalist Jamie Bartlett told us on the Media Fast Forward stage last year. Bartlett repeated the argument in ‘Facebook en ik’ on Canvas. “A bigger challenge than fake news is the fact that people are able to selectively put together their own news diet. People are cherry picking true news, real-life stories from mainstream media with the aim of confirming their own worldview.”

We continue this conversation. Because where media used to hold a mirror up to society, it has transformed today into a Rorschach test. An inkblot in which everyone reads a different version — their own version — of reality. Add to this tendency the observation that society is aging and diverging, and you will soon get the feeling that we are talking and living side by side. Welcome to a world in which everything is polarized.

That is why this year, we are literally putting polarisation on the programme. Under the tagline ‘Opposites Attract’, VRT wants to focus on the social responsibility of the media sector. As every year, we want to bring people together. In addition to a conference, Media Fast Forward is a meeting place where media makers, technology experts and entrepreneurs bond with each other.

At a new location, we make room for workshops, masterclasses, meetups and networking moments with changemakers of the local media and technology industry. That in addition to a surprising programme and a full-day conference. See you there!
