In the first year of churning, we have cashed in 671,057 UR points, 65,000 United miles, 15,000 American miles, $137 in airline gift cards for $11,471 worth of travel.

Most trips were purchased through the Chase UR portal, where points are worth 1.5 times their cash value.

We got flights to Amsterdam, Iceland, Italy, Boston, Hawaii, San Francisco, Columbus and Detroit without spending any real money.

Another less common way to redeem points is on car rentals, we haven’t done this often as you don’t really need a car in DC but the few times we needed one, it was easily reserved through the Chase travel portal. (About 1.5 years ago we sold our car as it was costing us over $2,000 a year just to keep it parked, inspected and drivable. Owning a car in DC is insanely expensive).

Chase also recently partnered with Expedia to greatly expand the hotel selection available in the UR portal. We were able to get affordable hotels in Italy, London and Bath without spending any cash.
