Smartphone vs. Dumbphone

The other day I was thinking of switching to a “dumbphone”. Yup, just phone calls, text messages, voicemails, and maybe that Snake game ;-)

Why?

In an effort to be more present and in the moment.

But, I live in NYC and waiting at a corner for a cab or printing directions seem less than optimal :-(

Let’s make this a design challenge…

How might we design phone that is “smart” when we need it to be and “dumb” when we want to connect with the present moment so that we can live a more optimal life?

Extra Credit: Clear your dock too. I almost cleared all the icons and realized that the overlap between “smartphone” and “dumbphone” is the word “phone”.
