- Frenum is a fold of soft tissue which connects the lips to the jaws. It is present in both the upper and lower jaw and is visible when the lip is stretched out.
- The same is also present at the base of tongue, called as lingual frenum.
- Sometimes, the frenum can be in abberant poition and limit the movement of the lips or the tongue. This can lead to gap between upper incisors or altered speech.
- This condition is surgically corrected by lowering the attachment of the frenum.
- This procedure can be done under Local anesthesia or general anesthesia.
