Tagging is a valuable tool. When you’re working with cloud resources you typically prefer to keep your resources “Tagged.” Why?

With tagging, you associate your cloud resources with extra data, so that you can describe how the resources are used and why you’re using them. With tags, you can relate your own cloud resources with a project, a department, or a customer.

You might have worked on several projects for your department, and you have tagged your several cloud resources with your Dept-Id. Now, after a re-organisation in your line of business, your Dept-Id changes. You’ll have to change the Dept-Id tag for your hundreds of cloud resources.

Navigating to each cloud resource and changing the tags involves a huge amount time and effort.

In Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), you can make bulk additions and updates of one or more tags to several cloud resources (of different types) with just few clicks. Easy!

Step 1:

Login to OCI as tenancy administrator, and click on the Hamburger Menu (top left)

Open Tenancy Explorer under Governance & Administration

Step 2:

Select your compartment to view your cloud resources.

Select the cloud resources you want to tag, and then click Actions -> Manage Tags.

Step 3:

In Edit Tag screen, for the selected cloud resources, add new tags or update existing tag, and then go to the Next screen

Step 4:

Review your tag changes, and then submit the changes.

In this way, with just few clicks, you can make bulk tag additions/updates in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

Are you wild about tags? Let us know in the DevRel public Slack!
