Do you know the feeling of recurring events that always come as a big surprise? For example, any significant Holiday or your wife’s birthday (this is obviously purely theoretical; it could never happen to any of us). Cloud World in Vegas is one of these events.

So, with one week away, it’s about time to give you a quick run-down of the highlights and sessions I would love to go to myself or the people I would love to talk to. In short, all things related to JSON and Mongo API.

There are way more sessions and exciting people out there than you will have time for or that I will remember and write down here, so apologies to all my co-workers, customers, and friends whose sessions are not mentioned or who are not mentioned explicitly. It’s all my fault.

TUESDAY

Let’s kick off Tuesday by just wandering around and getting organized for the week. Putting the suggestions in this blog on your calendar might be such a thing; then, having a rough idea about the week (or not), let’s get our hands on a keyboard — literally. You should join Ranjan Priyadarshi and Sean Stacey in their Hands-on lab at 10:30 a.m., Best of Both Worlds: Use JSON Relational Duality to Build Modern Apps. You’ll get pumped up and ready for more; just don’t spill coffee over your keyboard on Day One.

If that’s still too early for you or you know and use Duality Views already, then head over to Julian Dontcheff and Beda Hammerschmidt for a short and concise intro into all things JSON and Mongo API, namely the product showcase JSON in the Oracle Database: Relational Duality Views, the MongoDB API and More at 11:45 a.m. That’s probably the fastest way to get up-to-speed on all the facets of our work here. We’ll also hear how our esteemed partner, Decimal Point Analytics, put JSON and Oracle’s Converged Database into action.

The afternoon is the perfect time to visit the demo ground and meet with people. There’s a high chance that all of these folks will hang out there, ready to chat and discuss your personal use case!

Done for the day, enjoy Vegas or one of the numerous customer events.

WEDNESDAY

We gave you some slack time yesterday morning. Today is business, so let’s kick off the day with Jeff — THAT Jeff — Smith and Chris Hoina with their Hands-on lab Oracle REST APIs in the Autonomous Database: A Master Class at 8:30 a.m. If you are working with JSON in any form, you will hit REST at some point, so you’d better get started now.

Alternatively, if you prefer not to type that early in the morning, we have two alternatives for you, both equally exciting—and all conflicting time-wise, competing with THAT Jeff. At 8:30 a.m., Alex Nuijten and Roel Hartman will tell you about Oracle APEX, ORDS, and JRDV—The Three Amigos, a more compressed hands-off version of the Hands-on lab.

We then put Julian back to work, focusing on PL/SQL in Oracle Database 23ai, highlighting its JSON capabilities, including a JSON-to-Duality Migrator. Check out What’s New in PL/SQL in Oracle Database 23ai at 11:00 a.m. And what would life be like if there was not even more competition? Concurrently, you can learn from Ranjan and our esteemed customer Qualogy about Unraveling JSON Relational Duality: Insights from an Oracle Developer. The good news is that you cannot go wrong, either. The bad news is that you will miss one.

We’re getting closer to two of my personal highlights.

At 3:30 p.m., Beda will be joined by a customer (TWINT AG) and partner (Hackolade) in his session about Effective Data Modeling with 23ai JSON Duality Views and JSON Collections. This is what it’s all about when talking JSON or relational modeling—or probably both.

At 4:45 p.m., we put Beda back to work again, joined by our Executive Tirthankar Lahiri and Heli Helskyaho, CEO of Miracle Finland, for JSON Relational Duality: Under the Hood. This is your chance to hear from the brightest (and, coincidentally, some of the brains behind Duality Views).

Pumped up enough? Good. Head to the party, see you bright and early the next day.

THURSDAY

What would Cloud World be without a packed last day right after the party? We’re all still going strong. That’s why we start our official day at 10:15 a.m. with the Invitation to the Wedding of JSON and Relational Data, a great session from Kim-Berg Hansen.

Julian has given you a teaser about the easy way to migrate document data to JSON relational Duality, and Ranjan and Ajit Mylavarapu will tell you all about it in JSON-To-Duality Migrator: A Retirement Party for Your Pure Document Databases at 11:30 a.m. Ask them what you want; they designed and built that tool.

Phew, that was a long and exciting ride.

It’s time for a deep breath. It starts with a couple of ‘see this ... oh, no, see that’ and ends in a looong list. If you made it that far, I hope you got a couple of valuable pointers and ideas of what to attend. If you don’t manage to see all of these, we won’t be mad. In fact, we expect it, so we hope to see you then on the demo ground and be able to chat with you. We hope that Oracle Cloud World 2024 will be an exciting and also fun learning experience for you, wherever you put your focus. Thank you for being our customer.
