BKPS Visits WitchsFest USA

by Andrew Arnett
We’re trying to get the word out, the word about Brooklyn Paranormal Society and our particular brand of drunken ghost hunting. WitchsFest USA (July 9 @ Astor Place, Manhattan) seemed to be a perfect opportunity to do just that.
Billed as “a gathering of witches, voodoo priestesses, warlocks, psychics, pagans and practioners of the Craft,” we were certain we’d find like-minded individuals who, presumably, would not be afraid to investigate the hidden side of life, ie. paranormal.
Ant and I began the process of taping up flyers on lamp posts but quickly realized it would be more expedient to hold the flyers whilst standing in the midst of the throngs of witches and warlocks.
A commotion at the entrance to the festival turned out to be instigated by a group of Born Again Christians, there to admonish the pagan revelers to repent and turn to Jesus.
Equipped with placards and bull horns, the Born Agains attracted quite a sizable, though chagrined, crowd. The Wiccans were none too pleased to be ministered to, especially on their own turf.
A holy war, of sorts, ensued.
The Christians stood fast and we stood with them, right in front of them in fact, holding our flyers high and proud.
The attention was a boon for BKPS and the flyers went like hot cakes. Indeed, our membership roll jumped three fold during that hot outing. Not bad for a days work.
Why can’t we all just get along?
At the end of the day, weren’t we more alike than not? Indeed, Jesus was well versed at casting out demons, and was known to favor some wine now and then. A quintessential paranormal investigator.
