Overview

God of War is a game about compelling and immersive storytelling. A now old Kratos embarks on a journey with his son, Atreus, to scale the tallest mountain in the realms and disperse his mother’s ashes atop the highest peak, as per her dying wish.

The characters and environment are rich with atmosphere and expression that paint a memorable journey you won’t soon forget. The game juxtaposes realistic, interpersonal themes (namely the coming of age and the bond between father and son) against the world of fantasy and Greek mythology, creating a truly unique narrative, derivative of none else and accessible to fans and others alike.

The gameplay comes secondary, and its quality reflects this. It is sparingly used to enhance the story, but when it does, it enhances it to an unprecedented — dare I say, revolutionary extent. Other than its use as a narrative device, the gameplay falls short of being anything that impressed or even entertained me for the majority of my time with the game.
