The maiden event was held at Ghana Innovation Hub and supported by the leads of the Filecoin Orbit Community in Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Nigeria.

The event featured discussions on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) and Filecoin, decentralized storage networks that aim to make it easier for users to publish and access content on the internet without the need for a central server or authority.

Brian Ahimbisibwe, discussed, “Reinventing Storage”. Filecoin and IPFS will drive decentralization as the current mode of cloud storage is location-based and they are prone to data breaches and hacks.

Allan Mang’eni, spoke on “Building Your First DApps With IPFS”. He looked at why DApps should be built on IPFS and the tools to deploy. DApps stands for decentralized applications running on a peer-to-peer network.

Martin Sylvester, spoke on “Business Opportunities In The Ecosystem”, emphasizing Data Storage Providers as they earn on filecoin when they provide storage space. The more storage you have, the higher the chance of making money. He also discussed the system requirements, new innovations in data mining,

Finally, Likem Dzokot a Ghanaian blockchain developer, demonstrated how non-fungible tokens (NFTs) can be created on IPFS.
