Earlier this summer, Orbitz partnered with pet sitting service Rover.com to survey customers on pet travel trends and ways we could help customers plan the perfect vacation with their pet. Data from Orbitz and Rover revealed that owning a dog has a major impact on peoples’ traveling decisions. Some interesting stats include:

  • 40% of dog owners said it would be more difficult to leave their dog for a week than their significant other
  • Travelers spend an extra $103 whenever they travel with their dogs
  • 40% of travelers overwhelmingly prefer a pet-friendly hotel opposed to staying with friends and family or vacation rentals when they travel with their dog

More about the data and our partnership with Rover.com from Cheddar:

Two companies are teaming up to make traveling easier, with or without your dog. Carey Malloy, Director of Brand Marketing at Orbitz, and Slyvia Wes, a Rover dog walker, are making traveling more pet-friendly. “60% of millennials said they have actually skipped going on a trip because they didn’t know what to do with their pet,” Malloy says.
