It’s the execution

There are lots of ideas out there, being shared every day. Some ideas are very similar to other ideas. Some ideas get out there sooner than others. Ideas get stolen every day.

That is sad and frustrating, but it happens.

You can choose to hide your ideas and have them all to yourself, but what is the point of that?

When you have a great idea and you share it, you risk getting it stolen. You also find out how people feel about your idea. You get to see if it is a good or bad one. If it should be out there more or be put back in the box for another day. You get to see where your idea fits with someone else’s, or if you share an idea with someone, so you must be onto something.

What the idea doesn’t do, is magically make it beyond a hazy thought into something tangible. To make it tangible and valuable, you have to build, create or generate it. Then you have to go back and improve it, share it with more people, find out how people may find value with this idea, whether they will pay money to have this idea in their life. This is all based on actually doing things. It is not based on you sitting around and thinking about the idea some more. It is not based on you talking to lots of people about your idea.

It is about putting it in people’s hands after you have worked hard on building, creating or generating. It is about doing more of the things that means more people can feel, touch, use your idea. Again this is all based on you actually DOING something.

It is not the idea that makes something work, it is the work.

So how about tomorrow, you take that idea you had and start looking at how you can do the work to turn it into something. Execute and you will know whether it is a great idea or not. Keep thinking and that is all it is a thought.

“Vision without execution is just hallucination” an old proverb

In the simplest terms, I support people to prepare to profitably scale. What you do with a room full of people is very different to how you do it when they cross cities, continents or oceans.

I am happy to spend a few minutes working through a challenge you have, as an advisor on officehours.io (Officehours connects you with amazing people, for 10 minutes of free 1-on-1 advice).
