The joy of collaboration

When you work for yourself, it can be hard to find ways to collaborate with others that are perhaps not part of your client’s project. I have a group of people (quite a wide one) that I would love to work with on a project, but it means waiting for the right one to come along.

I have had the pleasure of creating projects with people I specifically want to work with and I forgot how much I was missing and how much I really need others to bounce off.

As with anything, we can’t do great work alone and if we want something to be good and stand the test of time, we need to have a diversity of thought to go into it. It gives us different perspectives, to look at problems from different angles and above all, to come up with great solutions to nagging problems.

Finding the right people to collaborate with can be a long journey. You don’t have to have the same point of view, but you do need shared values and goals. You both need to be aiming for the same, or similar, goal. Beyond that, you can have a great time discussing your different views and combining expertise, resources and intellect to produce a ‘third way’.

I have been fortunate to have been able to combine all of these elements with someone who I respect greatly and whose intellect and expertise I am in awe of. I spend time knowing that I am getting better and learning so much each time we look at the shared project and what we can do to improve and improvise and ponder and percolate.

We generate such excitement at each milestone we reach. I can’t wait to share it with the world and get it fully up and running. We are still riffing, experimented and piloting. When we crack open the chrysalis, the butterfly will be amazing!

In the simplest terms, I support people to prepare to profitably scale. What you do with a room full of people is very different to how you do it when they cross cities, continents or oceans.

I am happy to spend a few minutes working through a challenge you have, as an advisor on officehours.io (Officehours connects you with amazing people, for 10 minutes of free 1-on-1 advice).
