2022 is finishing up to be a great year for Orthogonal Education and Research Lab (OREL). We have published a number of papers, mentored several students through our mentoring program, participated in Google Summer of Code, hosted a physical meetup in Chicago, and presented at conferences from Neuromatch to WeRobot.

We often host weekly meetings, publish talks, and host other virtual events through the OREL YouTube channel. In the past few months, we have been working on assembling a representative sample of the lab’s activities, in order to make our activities even more transparent to potential contributors and collaborators. You can visit the Open House playlist, which features reports on progress updates in addition to research program activities for several of our initiatives and groups.

The Open House playlist is continually being added to, so check back for updates. Our accomplishments for the year are covered in State of the Lab 2022 (30 minutes), with highlights of our history and our research presence available in a separate video (9 minutes). We also have progress reports for the following programs, initiatives, and research groups: Developmental AI, Society Ethics and Technology (SET), DevoWorm, PhASiC, and Open Source. We also have a tutorial on Collaboration Tools from an Open Source perspective, and tour of our Slack and Discord Resources.

Looking forward to 2023, we will be hosting a public discussion group on rethinking Cognitive Science. Please sign up if you are interested, and we will get back to you with more information.
