Dehydration

When it comes to treating of the skin other than normal there have always been certain lightbulb moments along the way. It took forever for the beauty industry to accept that there is a fundamental difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin (lacking in oil or water, respectively) and that each requires different treatment. Since things have shifted, the industry seems to be committed to making up for lost time. Nowadays, rarely a season goes by without several product launches aimed at the thirsty skinned, but rarely are they so broadly good. Organic and clean skincare is no exception.

Many beauty products for dehydrated skin use Hyaluronic acid (or a derivative — we use hyaluronic acid from yeast) as their hero ingredient; hyaluronic has an amazing ability to hold onto water, so the skin stays more hydrated, looks plumper and feels softer. It’s present in loads of the products we’ve featured here, and a good ingredient to look out for (as a general rule) if you’re after something that will help with hydration. One of the ultimate hydration boosters has to be organic Aloe Vera which may sound boring but it’s very simple and effective if you just want something that gets straight to the point. It can tend to feel a little tacky or sticky, but you need to follow it with your Aloe Vera based face cream which deposits a lot of moisture, especially if you apply it on the slightly damp skin, to lock it in.

The goodness we like to use in our custom-made products for dehydrated and acne-prone skin are endless but lately, we’ve been especially fond of the Calendula extract in vegetable glycerin and carrot seed oil. Both are sourced locally in the Pacific Northwest and we couldn’t be more pleased. Both ingredients are great and inexpensive to get skin looking bouncy overnight — I’ve found this particularly useful after flying. Or just after a night out too good.
