Lost

In the Lost pilot episode a flight of passengers just crash-landed on an island. At first the group is just trying to make sense of what happened but soon realized they need to make an effort in order to survive. In such a dramatic time like this the passengers are confused and look for a leader to tell them what’s next. Jack is that leader. He is a surgeon and was able to take care of some injured passengers as well led the group to find a transceiver. The characters in this episode organize their work by working together as a team for the most part. A group of three went to look for the transceiver, Hurley comforted Clare, and many others pitched in to build a fire and set up a campsite. The passengers on the beach work together to gather supplies from the plane to make their stay on the island bearable. A fight breaks out and Jack breaks it up showing the group that he is a good leader. They try to make it as if they are all in it together but some passengers have trouble dealing with this. The first conflict the characters face is gathering them after the wreck. Jack takes a look at some injured passengers then goes on to solve another issue, which is locating the transceiver. Jack along with Kate and Charlie go find the plan and transceiver but are confronted by a monster that kills the pilot. When they escape the monster and got to the island Jack resolved a fight between Syed and Sawyer. Syed can’t pick up a signal so they try to get a signal by planning to go to higher ground. When they fail they try to stay optimistic and continue to believe they’ll be saved. I think that overall the characters in Lost work throughout the episode. Some go out into the jungle while others find food and set up campsite on the beach. Everyone is working together because they know this is the only way they are going to survive. They all been through a trauma and most are working together to figure out how they will get off the island and saved. The radio not picking up a signal and the inability for some people to work together may be more dangerous the mysterious monster in the jungle. I feel teamwork is the only way the passengers will survive. They need to work together or else they will all die. Everyone has his or her own stories but it doesn’t matter at this moment. At this time these people must be there for one another and support one another. Jack is the “hero” that the characters look for guidance when they don’t know what to do. They need this leader role, this structure makes it less of a struggle to make decisions. The characters going on the hike have a harder time making decisions because they have two strong personalities that disagree with one another and butt heads. I wonder why Jack and Kate didn’t tell the rest of the characters the news the pilot told them about how they were off track and will most likely not be found. Do they want the rest of the characters to stay optimistic?
