To any sort of company, culture can make a big difference. It can basically affect how the company is run, due to it governing everything from systems to beliefs and values. If a company cannot correctly set the right values and practices, it can set forward a path of dysfunctionality. Company culture is seriously vital. Here are some ways in which that culture is formed.

1. Focusing on the Small Things

I get this speech from my Dad all the time (don’t get me wrong, it makes sense), “If you don’t focus on the small things, you won’t focus on the big things in life.” I think this relates perfectly to company culture. Small things count, because in the end, they affect the big things, such as profits or final products. For example, if a company wanted to emulate good customer service, sending a thank you note to your valued customers is a small thing that can go a big way. It can also help create a disciplined, caring company culture.

2. Setting an Example

If the bosses at a company don’t set the right example, it won’t translate over to the lower employees, and the whole culture goes out of whack. Just because one has a higher position doesn’t mean that they can slack off, and not do their share to uphold the culture. If the company wants to set certain practices and beliefs in motion, it certainly starts from the top. By being a good leader, you set the tone for the whole company.

3. Starting from the Inception

To create a great culture, I believe that it should be set in place right when the company starts, otherwise, it can become really tough to change certain habits midway through the company’s journey. It’s like trying to change a NBA player’s shooting form midway through the season; it just won’t work. Either the player’s production will suffer, or the player won’t change it at all. The same analogy applies to a company.

As you can see from above, there are multiple ways to create a great company culture. If you use one at least one of them, it can help, but I believe that using all of them will help a lot more. I sincerely hope that you use at least one of these tips and it actually helps.
