I recently had the incredible experience of attending an Ori robotics lab tour; a company that specializes in tech that optimizes living spaces using a variety of different technology-induced furniture that makes the most of every square foot. Before I dive into how I believe this technology will be a game changer, I want to first talk about what Ori robotics is.

Ori Robotics (the word Ori coming from the Japanese word origami) is a company that combines tech and furniture to completely re-imagine how we should be using our spaces. Some of their recent projects have been:

The Cloud Bed: a bed that has the ability to drop down at a voice command through Alexa at an individual’s desired time, and put back into storage during other times.

There is also the pocket closet; this gives the user the ability to (like all Ori products) to utilize every inch of space through Alexa command. It’s mainly a closet space that can be altered throughout the day to maximize living spaces.

There is even an Ori studio suite. This is the jackpot for those who live in small spaces and need to make every square foot count. It’s perfect for those who want to make their living spaces not only functional but also comfortable and elegant.

Tech like this will completely change studio apartment living and small suburban housing and it has tons of implications. To name a few: reducing carbon emissions (because less space, less waste. There won’t be a need to heat up/ air condition large spaces anymore), land consumption, etc. and in the end, who doesn’t want more space?

So now that you know a little about Ori and what they’ve been up to, let’s look at the big picture: How is this technology going to change the world? To name a couple ways, I believe …

  • It will revolutionize how we currently use our living spaces. We won’t need so many rooms or extra space for storage. We can change our spaces to what we need them to be at the click of a button or a voice command. Once this catches on in real estate, no one will want to go back! It’s the future for spaces.
  • It will help city housing. According to today’s statistics, every week about 3 million people move to a city. That’s roughly about 428,572 people moving into highly populated areas every day! This technology will make transitions 10x easier.

Looking at everything together now, it’s clear that what Ori is doing will change a big part of how we live our everyday lives with robotics. They even recently partnered with IKEA to hopefully produce products efficiently. With a partnership like that, Ori is going to catch on fast!

Some might be afraid of what this technology is going to do to day-to-day life once its implemented. After all, the word “robot” has a pretty negative connotation today. Lots may be scared of the technology failing and hurting someone, but from what I saw in the labs, It’s completely controlled. Ori has over 50 years of testing and the products they sell have high quality sensors so even if the smallest amount of pressure is applied to stop any functions from taking place, Ori recognizes it and stops in its tracks.

Ori’s tech could change so much for the better in how we use our homes and spaces. In the future, we could use our home spaces at night but during the day retract our living quarters to create office space, studio space, work spaces, ect. We would literally be doubling what we have. That’s insane!

When I left Ori labs, I got so excited for the future of day-to-day technology. Its products like these that will change how we live. Think of the world before the iphone, or the PC; they changed everything once they hit the market! Everyone owns a laptop or a mobile phone now! The same could one day apply here. We may never go back to the way things were; we’ll never have wasted space again.

I want to thank Ivan and Ori labs so much for letting us TKS kids tour your labs! It was such an inspiring experience, thank you so much for it!
