Imagine an apocalyptic decline of civilization so terrible, no one even remembers who the Buddha is.

It’s said to take place 5,000 years after the Buddha’s time, whereby the relics of the Buddha spontaneously gather at Bodh Gaya, cremating themselves to an audience of 0 humans and many weeping devas (celestial beings).

The good news is that the Dharma traditions of India are not shackled to a linear notion of time. They are part of the sanatan, or eternal, current of truth. Another Buddha will arise to revive and rejuvenate humanity’s spiritual culture once more.

This happens because there are people who have committed to eons of reincarnating over and over again, for a defined purpose.

They cultivate their mindstreams until enlightenment isn’t a faraway possibility: it becomes a definite and unstoppable consequence of their practice.

Maitreya is one of these exceptional beings, known as bodhisattvas.
