Chicago, IL — February 21, 2013. Origin Ventures, a Chicago-based early stage venture capital firm, today announced the launch of its new fund, Origin Ventures III LP. The new $45M fund will focus on Series A financing for companies in e-commerce, digital media, software-as-a-service, mobility, and other technology sectors.

Origin’s previous investments include several market-leading companies, including GrubHub, ifbyphone, Shoutlet, and Campus Explorer.

“Bruce Barron and I formed Origin Ventures in 1999 and have enjoyed being actively involved in the expanding Chicago investment community for the past 13 years,” said Origin co-founder Steve Miller. “It is very rewarding for us to see the growth in this community and our firm, and we are proud of our leadership in the financing and strategic direction of our portfolio companies.”

The firm also announced the addition of a new principal to its management team. Brent Hill joins Origin after a successful career as an entrepreneur and operating executive at Twitter, Google, and Feedburner.

“We’re very pleased to add Brent to the Origin team,” commented co-founder Bruce Barron. “We have known Brent for many years and have seen him add significant value as an investor and advisor to several companies. Entrepreneurs will benefit greatly from his diverse operating experience in early stage, high growth businesses.”

Hill currently serves on the boards of Shoutlet, Red Foundry and Outdoor Hub and is an investor in GrubHub, Tubemogul, and Bump. “I’m thrilled to be joining Steve and Bruce, and look forward to helping them build on the success they have achieved with Origin’s first two funds,” said Hill.
