If we don’t talk about it, then you will never know when that's what's harming you

Is It a Moral Term? Is It a Political Term?

The name of the perverted writer Marquis de Sade is the origin of this term. He wanted to live a hedonistic life (a life solely based on pleasure) and advocated for it through his writings, which led people to judge him as if he were harming everyone by praising hedonism.

As a consequence, he was jailed repeatedly, escaped a few times, was forbidden to ever write again, and was forcibly placed in an asylum. All this happened in the midst of the French Revolution.

So the term sadism was first used to refer to him, but it has come to denote many different things throughout history. Nowadays, in our everyday lives, “sadistic” describes someone who rejoices in seeing or causing pain in others, and that is what I will discuss here.

Why It’s Important to Discuss Sadism Today

When sadism is everywhere and solidarity is unthinkable that’s when the bad guys (fascists) are winning.
