Creative Sleepwear! Multi-Purpose Fashion!

What do you do when you buy a piece of clothing for one purpose and hate it? Well if you are like me, you stick it in your closet, sometimes never to be seen again! It falls into the fashion black hole. I recently wanted to buy some new nightwear. I went out shopping, but couldn’t find anything that spoke to me. Yes, my clothing must speak to me if I am going to buy it. It has to say the right thing, or its not getting bought. I was extremely frustrated by my lack of emotional connection with anything I saw. Does this mean what is being sold is horrible, unworthy to be bought? No! It just means nothing struck my fancy.

You see, I had a specific type of sleepwear in my mind, and nothing that I saw was fitting my mental image. When I got home I was changing my clothes, and started looking at what was in my closet. I was immediately struck by how many blouses were in my own wardrobe that fit the image in my head! The blouses I keyed into were tunics. Long down to about mid thigh, the sleeves were all different lengths. I saw a vision in my head of looking for sleepwear from a completely different department in the stores. Likewise with online shopping. Who says sleepwear has to be traditional? I picked out three blouses in my own closet to convert to sleepwear, and later went out shopping again. This time I just went to the regular clothing departments and shopped there.

I found a few sleepwear items that I could re-purpose for bed time. In addition to blouses, I also found a couple of mini dresses made of this really comfortable silky material that is a sheath. I am petite so these fall at just the right spot mid thigh. I am now sold on creative sleepwear, regular clothes re-purposed to wear to bed! As a funny aside, this lady came to my door a couple of days ago. She and her kids had found a lost dog running around the neighborhood. The door bell rang, and I looked down at what I was wearing. It was one of those little mini dresses that I had bought for a night gown. She had no idea I converted it to sleepwear. I answered the door and talked to her. I couldn’t help but laugh when I closed the door because I realized the side benefit of getting caught in my creative pajamas. I can go to the door with no one the wiser that they have caught me still not having changed my clothes for the day!
