ORIGIN Bootcamp will be conducting a no-cost, virtual start-up program designed to provide mentorship from industry leaders for college students across the United States via Symba — a remote internship platform.

After observing the impact COVID-19 had on college students nationwide by canceling many of their highly anticipated summer opportunities, two recent college graduates, Claire Pan and Lyana Geng, and a rising senior, Jessica Chen, teamed up to found ORIGIN, a free eight-week virtual entrepreneurship bootcamp. The three co-founders first conceived the idea of ORIGIN in March and hit the ground running to get the program ready in time for the summer.

ORIGIN’s mission is to promote innovative thinking by providing students with a creative and accessible opportunity for professional growth. Lyana stated, “For many, the recruiting process and job hunt is excruciating, and amidst the COVID-19 crisis, the summer internship market seems to be only getting thinner.” Moreover, Jessica added, “While ORIGIN is about providing access to professional growth during these chaotic times, for me, it’s also about giving others the platform to find that confidence in themselves and their ideas.”

Symba stepped in to help make the program truly accessible. Symba is the leading platform for managing remote internships experiences and helps with onboarding, engagement, program management, and performance tracking. Over the past two years, Symba has helped design over 5,000 internship experiences. Nikita Gupta, Symba’s Co-Founder and CTO said,

“This summer, our team is working hard to support thousands of internships and help companies take their program remote through our campaign #SaveInternships. We are excited to work closely with the ORIGIN team this summer to support these important opportunities for students.”

Powered by Symba, ORIGIN will be hosting 260 college students from 61 universities across 13 countries this summer. The 57 student teams will be working to build their own startup addressing one of four United Nation Sustainable Development Goals. ORIGIN will host its exclusive webinars on the Symba platform where students independently learn and submit weekly deliverables.

There will be dozens of live and recorded workshops taught by entrepreneurs, professors, and industry experts to teach the participants to grow their idea to a full-scale tangible product. Every Friday, there will be a live speaker series aimed to strategically and technically guide students during their journey, which will grant them the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals. Students will also receive free hands-on coaching sessions from Online Career Fair. At the end of the eight weeks, successful teams will be eligible to participate in the Pitch Competition and the top three teams will be awarded.

The goal of ORIGIN is to help its participants attempt to solve some of the world’s most complex challenges, learn from remarkable leaders, and enrich their skills during this unprecedented time. This bootcamp aims to help students understand how to navigate the journey of creating a company and the myriad of considerations behind it.
