We’re excited to announce the launch of the Origin browser extension that is available today for Chrome, Firefox and Brave. You can earn 15 OGN for installing and using the Origin browser extension as part of our March Origin Rewards campaign.
While Origin is best known for our core product, our team is constantly experimenting and exploring new ideas around marketplaces and commerce. To date, most of our experiments have been tested internally or shown to only a small group of early users. Sometimes we’ve used ads to drive ads to a landing page to measure the demand for an idea. Lately, we’ve noticed the velocity of our experiments has been increasing. Our community is our greatest asset and we’ve decided it’s time to include you in what we’re doing. Think of our browser extension as a playground where our most adventurous users can play around with prototypes of some of our wild and crazy ideas. You’ll be among the first to see our new products and have the chance to offer feedback directly to the engineers who developed them.
While our extension will record some usage data to help us learn from our various experiments, we will not log your search history or read your emails. We are interested in learning more about how people shop online and you can expect to see a lot of explorations offering novel ways to shop and save money. We are launching this as a browser extension so that we can show you offers inline based on your browsing context.
We are taking inspiration from Google Labs which was Google’s invitation-only model that produced breakaway products like Gmail and Google Calendar. But just as important was the long list of failed product concepts you’ve probably forgotten about, like Google Wave. We believe that failure is an important part of the creative process and we want to have a safe place to be ourselves and explore ideas, even if they seem a bit wacky or impractical to offer at scale. When Gmail launched on April 1st, 2004 everyone thought it was a joke. At the time Hotmail was leading the market offering 2MB of email storage when Google announced that every user would get 1GB of storage. It seemed too good to be true. We have some similarly audacious ideas that could be truly revolutionary if we succeed. Most of our experiments will never launch as full products, and that’s okay. If we’re lucky, we’ll find something like Gmail that changes the game forever.
For this month’s Origin Rewards campaign, it’s all about our Origin browser extension. To celebrate the launch we have committed a total of 150,000 OGN to give away to our Origin community! Install our extension today and be the first to learn about new Origin’s experiments. Download and use the Origin browser extension to earn 15 Origin Tokens (OGN).
