GS1 describes itself as “The Global Language of Business.” OriginTrail’s blockchain-based protocol adds integrity to the mix. By utilizing GS1 standards, OriginTrail is enabling businesses to seamlessly speak the same language with integrity.
OriginTrail’s collaboration with GS1 goes back some time. GS1 standards have been an integral part of our solution since day one and enable OriginTrail to work with legacy systems. We have been members of our local GS1 office since January 2018. In July, we unveiled an official partnership with GS1 Slovenia that gives us an opportunity to proactively cooperate in the field of business support using GS1 standards.
As a part of this collaboration, we were invited to take part in the blockchain panel at the GS1’s global annual flagship gathering, the Industry & Standards Event 2018. This year, it took place in Dublin, Ireland.
Žiga Drev, OriginTrail’s co-founder & COO, presented at the GS1 Standards & Blockchain session, highlighting the benefits of using the technology and how if fits business needs. In his part of the discussion, Žiga showcased how the OriginTrail protocol uses GS1 EPCIS standards to make decentralized data exchange possible.
Our partners from EVRYTHNG, an IoT smart products platform working with OrignTrail in the Blockchain Integration Hub, were at the event, too. They are also closely collaborating with GS1 in the field of standards for IoT products. They unveiled a breakthrough digital identity standard, Digital Link, this summer. It gives every single physical product its own identity and URL to automatically connect to the web, triggered from a single QR code or NFC tag. The Digital Link was also ratified as a GS1 standard.
EVRYTHNG’s co-founder & CTO Dominique Guinard brought Barry the Bear with him to Dublin and showcased their newest service, powered by the OriginTrail protocol, in his presentation. See Barry the Bear in action!
The GS1 Standards Event is the go-to gathering for business leaders and trading partners, who are working together to tackle common business challenges, and develop global standards, guidelines and solutions to simplify and solve them. Collaboration and networking are at the heart of this unique event. Attendees are hearing from some of the most innovative and influential companies in the world, and sharing ideas and best practices during networking events. The program is full of working group meetings, sessions focusing on the most important GS1 topics, and networking events.
A more local GS1 event took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, as well. Co-Founder & CEO Tomaž Levak presented OriginTrail at the National Logistics Forum. This event was co-organized by the local GS1 office, with the aim of connecting professionals working in the regional logistics and supply chains fields.
The audience mostly consisted of supply chains and logistics professionals. Other presenters at the event included executives from GS1 Slovenia, the Post of Slovenia, and Spica.
Tomaž walked the audience through implementing the blockchain protocol to supply chains, and explained how data integrity brings tangible business value.
