February was the shortest month of the year, but it was surely one of the most productive for OriginTrail core developers. The team was wrapped up in the development of the Food Data Market project for the LEDGER program. They also published continuous updates of the OriginTrail node client. On the event side, OriginTrail left a mark at the GS1 Global Forum once again.

New Freedom-Gemini Network Updates

Nodes connected into the OriginTrail Decentralized Network (ODN) are at the heart of the OriginTrail protocol. Following the Freedom-Gemini release, we introduced a bi-weekly release schedule to regularly improve the OriginTrail node client. February brought the v4.0.5 and v4.0.6 updates.

The v4.0.5 release brought improvements in security and memory by increasing encryption key length for replications and removing unnecessary files from old versions of the node. It also increased overall data visibility on the network by improving the trail, which allows users to connect data from different sources.

The following release, v4.0.6 brought improvements in peer-to-peer network visibility by increasing parallelism in the network layer and improving the network joining process, which enables nodes to be more easily visible on the network. It also enabled additional telemetry, sending notifications for wrongly answered litigations to the development team and allowing for easier investigation of problematic litigations.

OriginTrail at GS1 Global Forum 2020

GS1 Global Forum in Brussels is the most important annual event held by this business standards organization. GS1 standards are an important part of the OriginTrail protocol, contributing to its interoperability. At GS1 Global Forum 2020, OriginTrail’s Co-Founder & Managing Director Ziga Drev was part of a blockchain panel with three other world-class blockchain pioneers.

Ziga presented our open-source Food Data Market project, which provides incentives for greater visibility in food supply chains by using the OriginTrail protocol with the GS1 EPCIS open standard.

Key ODN Metrics

In his recent update for Reddit, Co-founder & Managing Director Ziga Drev shared three lead metrics contributing to the value of the OriginTrail ecosystem and supporting TRAC token appreciation.

In this post, you can review the trends for monthly active jobs, total TRAC tokens staked, and total data size. ODN has gained strong momentum with 378% month-over-month growth in jobs from December to January.

We’ll include future updates on these metrics in OriginTrail’s regular quarterly reports.
