New year, new challenges! OriginTrail started January with a strong partnership with the British Standards Institution (BSI). Moreover, last month brought us the completion of the Open Call competition with 10 exciting teams getting ready to deploy their projects on the OriginTrail Decentralized Network. There were tons of other activities, including interviews, strong media recognition, and presentations at global events.
BSI Partnership Announcement
OriginTrail partnered with the British Standards Institution (BSI) to deliver blockchain-enabled solutions that will enhance BSI’s global assessment, certification, and supply chain services to confirm the provenance of goods or the integrity of digital records or services.
BSI is a business standards company that equips businesses with the necessary solutions to turn standards of best practice into habits of excellence. Founded in 1901, BSI works with over 80,000 clients every year, conducting over 250,000 audits in 172 countries worldwide to help them adopt and cultivate the habits of excellence and best practice. BSI’s influence is global, and the institution plays a key role within the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). BSI developed the world’s most successful standard — the quality management systems standard, ISO 9001 — in 1979. It has been adopted by more than one million organizations. BSI has authored eight of the 10 most popular standards and is shaping those for the future, smart cities, food, medical devices, IoT, environment, and health management.
Howard Kerr, Chief Executive of BSI said: “In today’s increasingly interconnected world, transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain is vital. This strategic partnership aims to provide our clients with the ability to demonstrate the authenticity of their compliance through the digital records of the assessments and certifications they have achieved from BSI. Ultimately building trust and confidence as consumers and business partners can easily verify the provenance of the goods and/or services they are buying.”
Tomaž Levak, OriginTrail’s co-founder and CEO, said: “We are glad that BSI has recognized the potential of blockchain technology to improve integrity in the often opaque global supply chains, helping increase product safety, protect brands, and decrease risk. We are looking forward to creating solutions and services based on the needs of BSI’s clients and ushering them into the fourth industrial revolution.”
At the launch, we organized an event for business partners in Ljubljana, Slovenia. You can take a sneak peek here.
Meet the Open Call Winners
January saw the community vote for projects that competed in OriginTrail’s first Open Call. You can meet the 10 winning innovative supply chain projects — as selected by our community of TRAC token holders — in this blog post.
The voting took place via a smart contract dapp that the OriginTrail team created and deployed on the Ethereum network. It is itself a promising use case of blockchain-based technology put to use.
At the finish of the vote, it was in the top 20 of the most used Ethereum dapps, as measured by Dapp Radar.
The real work starts now! The ten winning teams will soon receive resources to launch their projects and push data sets to the OriginTrail Decentralized Network.
The BSI partnership saw awesome traction both in the crypto community as well as in the professional one. This included an article in Cointelegraph, one of the leading crypto media outlets.
Co-founder & CTO Branimir was invited to present in Kuala Lumpur, at the European Blockchain Hub’s summit.
Co-founders Tomaž Levak and Žiga Drev gave an interview for BlockchainBrad’s YouTube channel. It was a great pleasure to discuss OriginTrail in depth with such a knowledgeable and curious interviewer!
Watch the interview (time stamps in the video description on YouTube):
OriginTrail was recognized by Newsweek, one of the world’s leading news magazines, for the social impact of the technology we are building.
In January, we distributed rewards to the winners of the OriginTrail Holiday Giveaway.
As after every quarter, we looked back at all the awesome things that happened in the final quarter of last year, including the OriginTrail Vostok Mainnet launch, technology partnership with Oracle, and the EUR 20 million SmartAgriHubs project with Wageningen University and Research. Read more in the Q4 2018 quarterly report.
And, last but not least, January marked the first anniversary of our token generation event. To reflect on the greatest achievements of the past year, we looked back on a year of developing the OriginTrail Decentralized Network in this blog post. It includes a video statement from the founders.
Stay tuned for more awesome updates in February!
