Walmart Inc. is ready to mandate use of blockchain technology by a swath of its U.S. suppliers, marking one of its biggest commercial uses.

The end-to-end traceability system is based on distributed ledger technology (DLT) developed by computing giant IBM. According to the report, Walmart will require suppliers to implement blockchain tech by September 2019.

The current understanding is that blockchain technology implementation will improve efficiency and save health of the customers, helping to avoid overstock, low quality and hazardous goods being accepted by retail chains.

(Earlier this year, five people died and dozens more were hospitalized in an outbreak of the E. Coli virus in the U.S. The CDC estimated that over 200 people were infected in total.)

It’s clear that OSA DC team sees great perspectives for Retail Blockchainization and believes in broadening the idea “Blockchained We Stand, Divided We Fall”.
