OST Platform provides all the tools you need to start integrating cryptocurrency micro-transactions into any website or app. It’s a complete set of developer APIs, SDKs, and dashboards that businesses of all sizes can use without any prior blockchain knowledge.

Today’s OST Wallet Popcorn release enables anyone to start experiencing the OST Wallet SDK immediately without any setup or development effort.

Continue reading below to learn how listening to users and efforts to unclog the funnel led us to launch OST Wallet Popcorn.

Background

The core functionality of OST Platform involves:

  • Creating your own white-label cryptocurrency (“Brand Token) on open scalable side blockchains, backed by staking the OST Token or the USDC Stablecoin on Ethereum. Creating your token takes just a few minutes and requires you to write 0 code.
  • Setting up transaction types in your app, to link an action in your app (e.g. an upvote or like or payment to a token transfer)

Since launching OST Platform in April 2019 we’ve had dozens of businesses begin using the platform in sandbox and on testnet.

🏳️‍🌈🙌👏 🎉 And, at the end of June, the first implementation of OST Platform to end-users went live, with the beta launch of “LGBT Token” within the Hornet app (potential reach: 30M downloads).

In the spirit of “do unscalable things early-on to drive disproportionate value down the line,” the OST Team speaks directly with every project implementing OST Platform, typically through dedicated Slack channels.

User Feedback: Requiring SDK Integration Was Clogging The Funnel

Listening to users of OST Platform we found that hundreds of developers wanted to try OST Platform (500+ signups) but that most of them were getting stuck at the requirement to integrate the OST Wallet SDK into an existing iOS or Android app (minimum 4 week development project, and requiring an existing app) before being able to experience all of the OST Wallet features and runs test transactions.

Solution, part I: The OST Wallet App

Listening to such user feedback led us to launch the OST Wallet app for iOS and Android last week.

OST Wallet is a user-friendly, non-custodial, Wallet app for Brand Tokens created with OST Platform. The Android and iOS apps are built using the OST Wallet SDKs. The beta release enables users to join Brand Token economies and send and receive tokens. Users can also explore wallet security and recovery features including recovering access to a wallet from smart contract using a 6-digit PIN. The recovery uses a combination of inputs from the end-user, the implementing company, and OST, with a time delay to help a user safely recover access to their wallet. To learn more about how OST technology enables users to recover their wallet without any other party being able to control their tokens, please see check out our developer website.

Last week’s release enables you to mint your own Brand Token with OST Platform, download the OST Wallet App, invite in some colleagues, and start testing all the features of the OST Wallet and running transactions on testnet within your own Brand Token economy.

🔐 Recovery w/ 6 digit PIN from smart contract
🚫 No writing down 12 words required

All these improvements have led to considerable increases in activity on the OST Blockchain, as we make it easier and easier for projects to get started.

Solution, part II: OST Wallet Popcorn

Today we’re taking the next step and launching OST Wallet Popcorn.

Removing another point of friction, the OST Wallet Popcorn release enables anyone to start experiencing the OST Wallet SDK functionality without first having to create your own Brand Token.

Simply go to OST.com, enter your email address, and we’ll send you a link to download the OST Wallet and start using the Popcorn economy. (iOS will require using Test Flight).

You’ll be able to immediately send and receive POP tokens between users and explore all the core functionality enabled by the OST Wallet SDK. We hope this will provide development teams with an even faster way to experience the OST Wallet and begin planning their UX and OST Wallet integrations.

OST Wallet Popcorn is currently on testnet. In the coming weeks we’ll be adding additional features and then we hope to move Popcorn to mainnet.
