Ever since its release in 1996, Pokémon has amassed a large queer following and there has been much discussion over possible queer Pokémon. I have set out to compile a list of my top 10 queer icons in the Pokémon universe.

Disclaimer: This list is based on certain stereotypes and tropes in the LGBTQIA+ community and is only for fun.

10. Snorlax

comicbook.com — Megan Peters

Snorlax has given some real representation to the bear community. He shows that no matter your size, you are beautiful!

9. Milotic

zerochan.net — dyunasumon

Not only is Milotic a gay icon in real life, but her evolution from feebas to such a beautiful sea dragon really resonates with the perceived journey of queer people coming out of the closet.

8. Ditto

polygon.com — Julia Alexander

Ditto is the pansexual icon of the Pokémon community. Always down for anything, you can tell they are attracted to all identities

7. Magneton

deviantart.com — jyru

Magneton is representing for all the polyamorous folks out there! Evolving from a singular magnemite, magneton is made up of three agender magnemite. We love the polyamory representation!

6. Phermosa

pokemon.fandom.com

There are a handful of agender Pokémon in the Pokédex, but none are as fabulous as Phermosa. Vogue tried to put them on the cover but their legs were toooo long, making them one of the non binary icons in the pokemon world.

5. Diance

pokemon.fandom.com

Opulence! This one is for all the witchy, crystal, and astrology queers out there. While this Pokémon may not be gay herself, she’s definitely a gay icon.

4. Darkrai

Gamerant.com — Marcus Lawrence

Coming in at number 5 is a controversial pick but Darkrai is a sickening alternative drag artist. The ambiguous gender expression along with that waist that is cinched for the gods; there’s no doubt about it.

3. Sylveon

twinfinite.net — Keenan McCall

Sylveon is the trans icon in the Pokémon universe. Not only does every queer person love Sylveon, but she also has the trans pride flag colors all over her body!

2. Ho-Oh

victoryroadvgc.com — Junghoon Jang

Ho-Oh is on this list because of its lore. It is said that its feathers shimmers in every color of the rainbow. It is also said to leave a rainbow trail behind its body as it flies. That being said, it’s definitely the champion of the gay pride flag.

  1. Jynx

One of the most controversial Pokémon ever, Jynx is clearly a drag baby. She hasn’t got it all figured out yet but we applaud her for getting out there anyways, Ru Paul better keep an eye on her.
