Submissions go here!

We gods high atop Mount Olympus have been watching you mortals in Durham for a while now. We have noticed some exceptional talent and interesting ideas amongst you and think they deserve a platform.
Hi, I am Anonymous Athena and I am here to explain to you the Durham University Classics Society’s submission policy and the different ways you can use Ostraka to get your work out there! On this journal-blog there are two ways to share your ideas:
#1 Let me speak for you
We are aware that more often than not it can be a little bit daunting to put yourself out there so the solution we devised is a simple one: I will lend you my voice! Once you have approached the society with an idea, you will get access to this account and can write, embed, draft, and play around with it as much as you want. I am set up as a “writer” on Ostraka and can write and submit stories for publication without messing too much up. Medium is a tool that is quite accessible and very easy to understand. You will soon have figured out how it works. Should you require a little more help however my humble servant Arved is always ready to help out.

Text can be written either online right or copied over from a Word document. If you do that simply add some finishing touches (pictures descriptions, quotes, bold, or cursive text, etc.) and you are ready to go. Once your publication looks and sounds the way you want it to simply click on the three little dots. Select “Submit to publication” and click on Ostraka. Your draft will then pass to Arved for a final once-over.
#2 Use your own voice
In the same way that I can speak for you, we gods want to encourage you to speak for yourself! If you publish under your own name the results can be easily be found by nosy siblings, proud grandparents, and even future employers. All you need to do for that is create an account on Medium by simply signing in with your existing Facebook or Google account. You will then be added as a “writer” alongside me and will have the same powers I have described above. It is your content and your ideas, your poetry, your podcasts, your Youtube videos, and your illustrations that we gods want to see. Ostraka is first and foremost designed around that.

This is an opportunity we wanted the Durham University Classics Society to provide for you and we can’t wait to see which shards you will add!
