#103: Anime Site Collaboration Project №15! The published interview of “INGRESS THE ANIMATION” and “Final Tomorrow After the World”, creators, CRAFTAR Studio!
Evaluating and re-evaluating the value of images at its source and explores the possibilities it holds.
Our guests for this interview were CRAFTAR Studio, an animation company known for its implementation of CG production systems and unique anime style. CRAFTAR Studio has taken the recent mainstream trend of “3DCG animation” and combined it with the Japanese traditional “hand-drawn animation” technique in order to create an entirely new system of their own. This hybrid system is labeled “Smart CG Animation”. Thanks to their ideal of “Creation starts from the production method up”, they have manufactured anime that expands past the mere borders of Japan and reaches the world over.
Taking “INGRESS THE ANIMATION” as an example of this, the depiction of an anime centered around an augmented reality-based game not only beautifully displays the way a worldview can change, but also personifies the statement “The world we perceive isn’t the full picture”. In addition to that work, the short films “Relative Worlds” was adapted into a feature animation titled “Final Tomorrow After the World”, an adaptation which received a nomination for the Festival International du Film d’Animation d’Anney 2019 Feature Animation competition section. Without a doubt, the audience was mesmerized by the showing, most of which probably believing they were experiencing a hand-drawn Japanese anime, little did they know.
Seamless content development areas like VR and others are just a few of the topics that were discussed during this interview. Among the other topics were CRAFTAR’s production stance “Always agree with every step forward in Technology” and the notion of going beyond the boundaries of animation and into the future of possibilities.
