What can you do with the Official Otaku Coin App?
Once it’s installed, what can it be used for moving forward?
Along with that, I’ve heard that Otaku Coin is going to evolve, but what does that mean?
We’ll explain these three things.
What You Can Currently Use the Official Otaku Coin App for
Receiving and Obtaining Otaku Coin
- Users can obtain Otaku Coin through various campaigns and events on the Official Otaku Coin App.
- The first 10,000 users will receive 3,000 Otaku Coin for free. (You must complete registration including SMS verification.)
- Users can obtain Otaku Coin by using the app’s QR code reader to read special QR codes used for campaigns
- Users can receive free Otaku Coin by inviting friends to use the Official Otaku Coin App when they install the app and complete SMS verification.
*This campaign may end without notice. You may invite up to five people, and you can receive 1,000 Otaku Coin per friend for a total of 5,000 Otaku Coin. - Users can send messages of support to anime studios through the app (see below) to receive 300 free Otaku Coin as a present for each studio supported.
*This campaign may end without notice. Messages are limited to one per anime studio per account.
*The number of Otaku Coin users can receive for free may change.
Using Otaku Coin
- You may use Otaku Coin when making purchases on online stores.
*How Otaku Coin is used for transactions may depend on the shop, such as exchanging Otaku Coin for the points particular to that online store that can be used for transactions.
*Currently, you can exchange Otaku Coin into TOM Points in the Tokyo Otaku Mode Shop (https://otakumode.com/shop) or TOM Projects (https://otakumode.com/projects).
Exchange Rate: 1 XOC = 1 TOM Point
Regular members may exchange up to 300 TOM Points each month.
Premium members may exchange up to 3,000 TOM Points each month.

*The exchange rate may change.
*You may not exchange more than the set number within a month. The exchange limit is removed and reset at the beginning of each month, and you are then able to exchange again from the start of the following month to the end of the month. For example, if you are a standard member of Tokyo Otaku Mode, if you exchange 300 XOC for 300 TOM Points on Jan. 15, you cannot exchange anymore through Jan. 31 and will be able to exchange again beginning on Feb. 1.
*The exchange rate above is the rate for the campaign which will end in the end of January 2019.
*There are cases in which the exchange rate is modified without advanced notice.
*The remaining balance for the number of Otaku Coin that can be exchanged cannot be carried over to the following month. The highest number according to your member status will always be the maximum.
Supporting Anime Studios
- Users can offer support to anime studios as part of the “Anime Production Studios Gaining Global Attention and Paving the Way to the Future” project collaborating with anime sites around the world by clicking the button at the bottom of the Official Otaku Coin App home screen.
- Through the app, users can send supportive messages to anime studios.
*The Otaku Coin Association (OCA) will be responsible for taking excerpts of the messages of support users send, making them into a poster, and delivering and reporting this to each studio.

Please be aware that if you do not update the Official Otaku Coin App, you may lose your Otaku Coin after a set period of time passes.
