A shadow dog chased
my shadow car around
a shadow block,
when the light shifted
the dream catapulted me
to the front of the bus.

Oxygen dripped
like blueberries in fog,
conversations drifted
from conclusion,
by all accounts
the sun had an alibi.

In an unguarded moment
wishing for a better life
was all it took, books
dusted themselves
from the shelves,
opened to the precise page.

The repeating radio refrain
reflected the times,
one early afternoon the traffic
reversed expectations,
coming home became
a matter of pride.
