Morning comes to silent tongues with broken
rhymes that fill the night like endless shadows
spreading out amongst the tombstones. Unspoken
epitaphs are hanging from the gallows.
Daybreak killing death caps springing beneath
moonlight faded chases darkness away;
Junkies try to sleep and grit rotten teeth;
Lovers hide between stained sheets, shadows play.
Cigarettes are lit, as water rushes,
exhaust rises, televisions broadcast
death for breakfast, America flushes
vomit, regurgitation of Rome’s past.
Peaking out from underneath a sewer,
Everything appears to be much newer.
