My worst day at school

I wake up, excited.

Finally, it’s my day to make a speech at assembly and I am raring to go.

My speech will be about the new community garden we are building at the end of our street. I want to ask the students to get involved, and get their families involved. It’s an exciting opportunity for us all and I think it would be nice to do something as a group in Year 6 before we move on to different high schools.

I will tell them this.

Downstairs in the kitchen, Mum and Dad have already gone to work because it is Wednesday. Hump day, dad calls it, because it’s all downhill to the weekend after Wednesday. Anyway, I have to get my own breakfast today because everyone is out, but that’s OK. I know there is leftover pizza in the fridge and breakfast pizza is my favourite.

The pizza is stiff on my plate and there are fewer pieces than I expected. I suppose Dad had some too. I take a bite, the tomato sauce oozes out from under the cheeze and is a bit sour on my tongue, but the next mouthful has a piece of pineapple in it and that is sweet. I bet the next piece will have some ham on it. That’s the best thing about breakfast pizza, every mouthful is a different adventure.

After the pizza I’m a bit hungry still. That’s when I find it… the chocolate mousse leftover from Sunday’s dinner party…
