I stand with Planned Parenthood, so do I stand with Hillary Clinton?

I did not know that I cared about candidate endorsements. I knew that I cared about reproductive rights. I knew that I believe that women have a right to affordable health care. I knew that I personally believe that you can’t be anti-abortion and anti-government assistance because they are clearly and obviously related.

But when Planned Parenthood announced their endorsement for Hillary Clinton, I gave it a second glance. Planned Parenthood is doing work that needs to be done, and if they trust Clinton to get it done, should I trust her too?

I have some reservations about Clinton as the Democratic presidential nominee, as do most liberals: Is Clinton too moderate? And how many times has she changed her mind on policy? And would her presidency be too dynastic? But honestly, my biggest reservation about the DNC nominating Hillary Clinton, is that she is too safe of a choice; is Clinton enough of a change that people, especially young people, are willing to go out and vote for her?

But Hillary Clinton getting an endorsement from Planned Parenthood is making me lean in her direction. Everyday of my high school career, I drove past Planned Parenthood protesters. Gross.

I have known people who have gone to Planned Parenthood for everything from birth control to rape kits. But never have I known someone who just popped in for an abortion.

Planned Parenthood does the work that no other organization is doing, taking care of the sexual and mental health of women who would otherwise not have it. I have never stepped foot in a Planned Parenthood but I trust them. And when they say that they trust Clinton, it makes me want to trust her, too.
