There is a saying, “seize the tail of the holiday,” which means to make the most of the remaining time of a holiday to do something meaningful.

With the month coming to an end and the school season just around the corner, it’s time to head to the nearby seaside with family and children for an interesting weekend getaway.

Although it’s called “nearby,” it’s actually over two hundred kilometers away by car. Fortunately, most of the journey is on the highway, so it takes only two and a half hours to drive there. The advantage of driving is that you can pack all the children’s beach toys into the trunk. I can’t imagine the scene of carrying a big bag of shovels and buckets on public transportation.

I don’t live in a coastal city, so I don’t understand where this longing for the sea comes from. But I do enjoy sitting on the beach, gazing at the boundless ocean, watching the layers of waves. Even if I do nothing for an afternoon, I can feel the peace within my heart. At that moment, it’s easy to forget the trivial matters around me and to clear my mind and body.
