#myNorm: Compromise — Can we agree on solutions for our changing climate rather than fighting about the causes?

I’m such a huge fan of the title “Climate Action”. I focused on the title when writing about Global Goal 10, so I must have a growing appreciation for words setting the tone for meaningful discussions. I think understanding and preserving our climate is humanity’s most important topic right now, but it seems like every conversation around the issue turns into an unproductive argument that obsesses over a single cause for our changing climate.

I like “Climate Action” so much because it gets us past the debate about why the climate is changing. “Climate Action” allows us to focus on solutions that ensure safety and security for everyone in our constantly changing world.

  • If sea levels are rising, what amazing engineering feats will we accomplish to protect the livelihood for people around the world’s coastal regions?
  • If changing weather patterns start affecting crop yields, how will indoor vertical farming help us maintain and improve food security?
  • If CO2 emissions or the lives lost each year from pollution are a concern, what energy solutions can support society’s advancements, help us become carbon neutral, and ensure safe air and water for as many people as possible?
  • If forests help maintain safe CO2 levels in the atmosphere and help regulate our weather patterns, how can we transform our reforestation efforts into humanity’s biggest DIY garden project?
  • If the planet’s magical biodiversity is at risk, how can we promote the artists capturing our world to remind everyone why climate action is important and how we’re making progress towards achieving our goals?

I really think debating why the climate is changing is a waste of time. I think it’s a lot more important that we all understand the potential risks and are each be empowered take action in our own way.

Climate change is scary // Climate action is empowering

My perspective of why I think it’s so important for us to choose our words wisely when discussing the climate. (Global Goal 13 was developed as a part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We centered norm around these goals after reading Issue 05 of CONSCIOUS Magazine)
