Kahlia Lawrence is game changer on and off the court. I talked to her about her plans for the future as a professional basketball player.

While most college graduates are getting ready to enter the “real world,” Kahlia Lawrence is preparing to enter the world of the Women’s National Basketball Association.

“Ever since I started playing basketball and developed a love for it, this has been the ultimate goal,” Lawrence said. “It feels like all my hard work is paying off.”

In four years, Lawrence collected 20 Southern Conference accolades. Former teammate and best friend, Sydni Means, said that Lawrence’s success isn’t stopping anytime soon.

“I’m calling rookie of the year,” Means said. “I know she can do it because she has been doing it for the past four years, it has just been in a different setting.”

Lawrence is making a cross country move to Nevada to play for the Las Vegas Aces.

“I’m excited for the challenge,” Lawrence said. “I’m excited for new things. It’s a new place, I’ve never been to Las Vegas. It’s a lot going on, a little overwhelming but exciting at the same time.”

Lawrence’s talent and love for the game is undeniable but there is another side to Lawrence that not many know.

“Basketball has always been the plan but there’s also been another part to it, I want to be able to do something else,” she said. “I really have developed a passion for mission work and helping others.”

Lawrence has been an active member of the Macon community for the past four years, but her passion for service solidified while on a trip to Greece with Mercer on Mission.

Community service, mission work and helping others is a side thing that I would love to do apart from basketball.

“Being a professional athlete now, I have the means in order to create my own source of help for others and I think that will definitely be a really big thing for me,” Lawrence said.
